Adobe Firefly doesn't try to compete purely on raw image-generation quality against Midjourney or Nano Banana — its real advantage is how tightly it's integrated into Photoshop, Illustrator, and the rest of Creative Cloud, which matters enormously if that's already where your work lives.

Generative Fill inside Photoshop is the single feature that makes Firefly worth knowing about even if you're skeptical of AI generation generally — being able to select part of an existing image and regenerate or extend it without leaving your normal editing workflow removes a huge amount of the back-and-forth that using a separate generation tool requires.

Firefly is also trained specifically on licensed and Adobe Stock content, which matters for commercial use cases where copyright provenance is a real concern — agencies and businesses working on client projects often have a genuine, practical reason to prefer this over a model with murkier training data sourcing.

You're already paying for Creative Cloud and editing in Photoshop or Illustrator regularly, you need generated content with clearer commercial licensing provenance, or your workflow benefits from generation happening inside your existing editing tool rather than a separate app.

If you're not already in the Adobe ecosystem, the standalone generation quality generally trails Midjourney for pure artistic work, and it's not the strongest option for realistic, identity-preserving photo edits from a personal reference photo.
